Reinstate LGBTQ protections in the social work code of conduct!
Tell Gov. Abbott NO to discrimination in social work. STOP attacks on LGBTQ Texans!
Earlier this month, the board that regulates social work in Texas voted to remove critical non-discrimination protections for sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and disability from the social work code of conduct.
The move came after a last minute request from Gov. Greg Abbott's office. There was no chance for public comment, and it wasn't included on the meeting's agenda.
This is another underhanded attack to chip away the rights and protections of LGBTQ Texans. Social workers support people in their time of need. The profession exists to help others, and there should be no room for blatant discrimination.
It's time to take action! Stand with us to tell Gov. Abbott NO to discrimination in social work.
βIt is unconscionable that the Board, with direction from the Governor, would strip these protections from the code of conduct for social workers. LGBTQ Texans still face enormous barriers in access to health care, mental health services and affirming medical treatment. Social workers care for some of the most at-risk individuals in our society. During a global pandemic we should be creating access, not further roadblocks,β said Resource Center CEO Cece Cox.
