Stop SB 12: the Drag Ban Bill!
Tell the Texas Legislature to STOP SB 12, the "drag ban" bill!
SB 12, the so-called "drag ban" bill, has reached the floor of the Texas House. This bill has already passed the Senate so we need all hands on deck to oppose it at this last critical vote.
Despite the removal of specific language that targets drag, SB 12 is an attempt to limit the free speech and expression of the LGBTQIA+ and other communities. The bill contains vague language with no definitions that would still allow bad actors to claim drag, and other types of performance, are explicit or sexually oriented.
Public indecency is already a crime in Texas. This bill would create ambiguity that would allow bad actors to police LGBTQIA+ and other spaces. It could impact public performances such as Pride celebrations, powderpuff football - even the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders!
We need your voice to be heard in opposition, today!
Step 1. Enter your contact information to send an e-mail message to your members of the Texas Legislature.
Step 2. Call the offices of House Speaker Dade Phelan and your member of the Texas House. Tell them: "I am calling on you to vote no on SB 12. Please stop this bad bill."
