The 2023 session of the Texas Legislature is just getting underway in Austin and we have already seen an unprecedented number of anti-LGBTQIA+ bills filed for consideration. The last session of the legislature was an all-out assault on the rights and dignities of our community. We need your help to hold the line this session!

More than 80 bills that target our community have been filed and we expect more as the session progresses. What is clear is that some lawmakers are continuing, and even amplifying, their attacks on LGBTQIA+ Texans. We need all hands on deck. Contacting your representative through e-mail and phone calls is even more important than ever this session.

Stand with us and tell your members of the Texas lege to not engage in attacks on our communities!

Past sessions have included insidious attacks such as attempts to ban affirming care for transgender youth, the “bathroom bill,” adoption discrimination and so-called “religious refusal” bills designed to undermine our rights. Gov. Abbott, Lt. Gov. Patrick and AG Paxton and allies are continuing their attacks this session. Enough is enough - make your voice heard today!

Subject: Stop Attacks on LGBTQ Texans this Session

Message:

As the 2023 Legislative Session gets underway, I call on you and your colleagues to reject attacks on the LGBTQIA+ and HIV/AIDS communities this session. I urge you to oppose bills that target LGBTQIA+ youth such as those that would eliminate affirming, often life-saving care for transgender youth and further marginalize them at school. These cruel bills undermine the fundamental rights and dignities of at-risk youth in our state. Blatant attacks in past sessions such as the “bathroom bill” in 2017, attempts to gut non-discrimination protections in 2019 and restricting participation in school sports in 2021, were counterproductive and misguided. We urge you to devote critical legislative time to the real priorities across the state to create equity and access for all. Texans of all political, geographic, religious and ethnic stripes support equal rights and protections for the LGBTQIA+ community. These attacks are out of step with public opinion in our state. They also needlessly harm the state’s reputation to attract business from other parts of the country. As your constituent, I call on you to protect ALL Texans and to oppose bills that attack transgender youth and undermine protections for LGBTQIA+ Texans. Thank you for your attention.
